The Metro Grand Knight (MGK) of Owerri Metro Council, Sir (Prof.) Augonus Nnamdi Uhuegbu, has charged newly elevated Fourth Degree members of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM), Nigeria, to embrace their new status as elders of the Order and provide guidance and leadership to younger members.

Sir Uhuegbu gave the charge shortly after the investiture of 279 members of the Order, comprising 131 Brothers and 148 Sisters, into the Fourth Degree by the Worthy Supreme Knight (WSK), Sir Steve Adehi, SAN, CKSM, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Jubilee Hall of Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the MGK expressed gratitude to God for the successful conduct of the investiture and commended members of the Metro for their dedication and sacrifices in ensuring a memorable event.

“First of all, I want to thank God for the success of this event today. It was quite amazing and I am delighted to witness it,” he said.

“We all have been busy and have not rested since yesterday with several engagements which ended with a gala night, trying to ensure that this event is successful.”

Reflecting on the significance of the Fourth Degree, Sir Uhuegbu described it as a call to greater responsibility within the Order.

“I want to remind our newly elevated brothers and sisters that Fourth Degree simply means ‘Responsibility’,” he stated.

“The newly elevated members have now become elders of KSM and they are now to provide elderly roles to the upcoming ones in the Order. We cannot do this alone, but we believe that their wealth of experience over the years before attaining this cadre has placed them with this new role.”

The Metro Grand Knight also commended the Worthy Supreme Knight for extending charity to widows who were among those elevated during the ceremony.

“The Worthy Supreme Knight did not just come for the investiture; he also showed love to the vulnerable among those who were elevated and about 40 widows benefited from it,” he said.

“Owerri Metro is pleased with this gesture and we thank him so much for his kindness.”

One of the newly elevated Fourth Degree members, Sir Coleman Ibe, Worthy Secretary of Assumpta Sub-Council, described the elevation as both a privilege and a challenge to deeper Christian commitment.

While appreciating the leadership of the Order and accepting the responsibility associated with his new rank, he spoke emotionally about the significance of the elevation.

“I feel great and deeply challenged to live for Christ and the Church,” he said.

“It is an elevation with great responsibility and I thank God for enabling me ascend to the Fourth Degree of the Honoured Order of the KSM, Nigeria.”

“I pray for His grace to live up to expectations, be in good standing in the Church and society, and have the courage to defend the faith in all circumstances and profess truth in this life.”

“I am grateful to the SK, MGK and my GK for their wonderful support and I will advise the younger Knights to approach knighthood with a sense of spirituality, commitment to the rules and imbibe patience in their minds as a measure for ascending in the cadres of the Order.”

Also speaking, Sir Maurice Onyiriuka, Worthy Chancellor of Assumpta Sub-Council and one of the newly elevated brothers, urged younger members of the Order to remain committed, disciplined and knowledgeable in order to attain the highest degree.

“For younger brothers to climb to the apex degree, they have to work hard, be conversant with the provisions of the different documents of the Order and should also be knowledgeable in papal encyclicals, liturgical proceedings and Vatican II documents,” he said.

“They also have to be disciplined and participate actively in the activities of their subordinate councils, zones and metro whenever necessary. With this and life, they will surely get here.”

Beyond marking another milestone in the progression of members within the Order, the Fourth Degree investiture reaffirmed the commitment of the Knights of St. Mulumba, Africa’s largest Catholic Order, to strengthening faith, promoting charity and preparing a new generation of leaders dedicated to defending the Church and its values at a time when Christian persecution and social challenges continue to test the resolve of the faithful
