The 40th anniversary of the Henry Nwosu Cup, played at the Naze Secondary School in Naze Autonomous Community from December 21, 2025 to January 1, 2026 with the six villages in the community, has come to an end with Umuorie FC emerging champions after edging defending holders Umuezuo in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Both teams had earlier met in the opening match of the tournament, which ended in a goalless draw, and once again crossed paths in the final. This time, however, Umuorie asserted their superiority over the defending champions, who surprisingly failed to record a single win throughout the tournament but still managed to reach the final.

Umuezuo adopted a catenaccio style of play, grinding out four draws in all their matches, but their luck finally ran out in the final. Umuorie, on the other hand, displayed composure, tactical discipline, and superior preparation, qualities that ultimately confirmed them as the deserving champions of the competition.
After regulation time ended goalless, Umuorie sealed victory in the penalty shootout, converting four spot-kicks, while their goalkeeper made two crucial saves. The triumph ended Umuezuo’s quest for a back-to-back title and crowned Umuorie as the new holders of the prestigious trophy.
Umuorie’s captain, Ezinna Onyiriuka, led by example throughout the tournament and was graciously rewarded with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for his outstanding performances.
