The Management of the Federal University Of Technology Owerri has eventually listened to the concerns of the community on the Certificate Processing Fee. Now as simple as certificate, the university is sounding like and extortionist.

In a Press Release, the Registrar said that

PRESS RELEASE- SUSPENSION OF CERTIFICATE PROCESSING FEE

Following representations on the issue of Certificate Processing Fee, Management at its 51st EXtra-Ordinary Meeting held on Thursday, August 13, 2020, decided to suspend the introduction of enhanced security features on our degree certificates as well as the introduction of Certificate Processing Fee.

This will allow ample time for consultation with all stakeholders.

J.U. Nnabuihe,
Registrar

Before Now

Before this suspension of the processing fee, the University made a published explanation on the reason for the fees. The Registrar, Nnabuihe, said that the incumbent administration met the backlog of unprocessed certificates. This spanned up to three academic sessions. Nonetheless, they have to work to clear the backlog which could have been completed save for the ASUU strike. Additionally, the University said that because of the many backlogs, they have to procure steel drawers. This implies that the fees are supposed to cover the cost of all additional resources around these certificates. It was clear that the members of the University Community did not take these reasons as strong enough for such size of fees.

The Alumni Association of FUTO raised this issue with University through the NEC and the BOT. This necessitated clarifications by the University. the words of the University officials were,

In the light of the above and the need to avoid further demurrage on storing the uncollected certificates spanning several years, Management has reviewed the certificate processing fees as follows.

1. All graduates from 2019/2020 graduating set who are to be issued the new improved certificates will pay the processing fee of N20,000 subject to review as the need arises.

2. All other graduates up to 2018/2019 set are to pay certificate processing and storage fee of N10,000 only, provided they take necessary steps to collect the certificates within the next one year.

Failure to collect the certificates within the stipulated one year will attract payment of an additional N10,000.

Management urges all graduates who are yet to collect their certificates to avail themselves of the opportunity to do so within the stipulated period to relieve the University from the burden of storage of these certificates.

Thanks for your co-operation!

J.U. Nnabuihe,
Registrar

Processing fee is Suspended Now

For now, these fees are suspended. let us watch to see how this issues are handled as the Graduates awaits a smooth resolution of the Transcript frustrations.
