The Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, met with former players of the Rangers International FC in a secret meeting at the government house to discuss issues of unfulfilled promises made when they won the NPFL title in 2016.

Prior to the meeting which took place on Wednesday, the former players of the club had planned to stage a protest on July 28, 2022, against the government over its failure to redeem its land promises made to

The meeting was apparently put in place by the Enugu State Governor to lure the players from their planned protest, which could cause more problems for the state government.

Governor Ugwuanyi, however, told the players that the delays in redeeming the promises were as a result of lingering litigation in court over the site that was chosen to be given to the players.

Leader of the 16-man delegates who met with the Governor and former Rangers player, Chibuzor Madu, while disclosing the outcome of the meeting on Prime Sports Radio, Enugu said the governor promised to

allocate the promised lands to them in two weeks after the litigation in court is settled.

“Yes, we met with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the land issue on Wednesday, and he promised to fulfill his obligation by allocating the promised lands at a new site”.

Chibuzor Madu further also confirmed that the governor gave monetary gifts of N200, 000 (about $482) each to the players in attendance.

“It’s true that the governor gave us N200,000 each as a gift and we thanked him for his magnanimity”.
