The convention which commenced with a heated debate among the members of NEC comprising of the chapter chairpersons and secretaries on vital issues among which are delegate quota allocations and remittances ended without a resolution at about 2 AM paving way for the Congress to decide on the choice of the election.
The arrival and registration of the attendance of delegates commenced at about 12 noon which went hand in hand with chitchat, familiarization, and networking among members and elders of the Congress.
The ceremony continued with the great Urhobo traditional dance ushering in members of the Congress and invited guests into the ceremonial hall at about 2 PM with the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mrs. Nnenna Oti in attendance and ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), Prof Julius Sunday Orebiyi as a guest and the Director, Office for University Development (O.U.D), Prof Anthony E. Ibe as moderator.
The charismatic outgoing president of the association, Engr. Ndubuisi Chijioke took time to highlight his giant achievements so far and noted some challenges faced by the association while giving out possible solutions and counsel to the incoming executives. He thanks God for the journey so far and prayed that every member of the alumni should see it as a point of duty to commune with their chapter to ensure formidable alumni for the progress of our alma mater. He, however, frowned at the university management in the area of technology, innovation, and response from alumni members seeking one help or the other. He charged the DVC to set up a communication channel to enable alumni members to enjoy quick access to the management.
The Vice-Chancellor through the DVC Administration commended the efforts and work so far from the alumni as a body having the interests of the university while charging them to do more especially in areas of project financing.
Notable among the contributions and questions from the congress was the security of the students in the university environment, territorial disputes between the university and neighboring communities, improvement and renovation of hostels, etc.
