LAGOS, April 27, 2026 — The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is set to usher in a new phase in Nigeria’s sports development with the official inauguration of the Olympafrica Centre and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Olympic Residential Estate Project in Lagos.
The dual event, scheduled to hold today by 11 a.m. at the Olympafrica Sports Centre, signals what stakeholders describe as a strategic shift toward integrating sports infrastructure with residential innovation.
The centre, located along Alakoso Avenue in Amuwo Odofin Estate and in close proximity to the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Church Headquarters, has long functioned as a hub for grassroots athletic development. Its facilities include a standard football pitch, athletics track, volleyball and basketball courts, as well as a multi-purpose indoor sports hall.
Speaking in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the NOC described the project as a landmark initiative designed to reposition the country’s sports architecture for long-term sustainability.
According to the PRO, “this event marks a strategic evolution for the NOC, merging functional athletic facilities with an innovative residential concept that fosters a sustainable sporting ecosystem.”
At the heart of the development is the Olympic Estate, a first-of-its-kind residential project embedded within the NOC complex. The concept adopts a “Live-Train-Play” model, a growing global trend that integrates athletes’ living spaces with high-performance training facilities.
The NOC spokesman further noted that the initiative is aimed at creating an enabling environment where athletes can thrive without the limitations often associated with access to training infrastructure and accommodation.
“For years, the Olympafrica Centre has served as a quiet engine for athletic development; now, it takes centre stage as we begin a new chapter that supports the next generation of Nigerian champions,” the statement added.
Sports analysts view the initiative as a bold step toward addressing systemic challenges in athlete development, particularly in bridging the gap between grassroots discovery and elite performance.
The ceremony is expected to attract key stakeholders in the sports sector, government officials, and members of the sporting community, as the NOC positions itself at the forefront of innovative sports development in Nigeria.
