As we remember the drone, and why we need to continue great internship programs for our students
Back in September 2017 some final year students of Electrical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) tested their project. It was a functional flying Drone.
Guided by their supervisor, Ekeh Isidore, Kizito Onyema, Aloysius Nwokedike and John Kenedy Kalu submitted the drone to their department. This was their final year project.
a drone, commonly referred as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ) is an aircraft or any flying device without a human pilot on board and a type of unmanned vehicle. The UAVs are a component of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS); which include a UAV, a ground-based controller, and a system of remote communication. The flight of UAVs may operate with various degrees of automation. This automation can either be through a remote control operated by a human or automatically by onboard computers.
When asked if the quadcopter was built from the scratch, Kizito Onyema answered in affirmative. Kizito, who uploaded the video of themselves testing the device on the university campus, said that the drone was built from the scratch by four of them.
With a little more support and investment, Nigerian Students can provide needed Technology solutions for the country. One such solution is security surveillance.
Many Congrats to the Students, the department and FUTO.
