The FG will now unveil the eNaira on Monday 25th October 2021. President, Muhammadu Buhari will formally lead the unveiling event at the State House, Abuja. The eNaira is the Digital Currency of the Nigerian Central Bank.
This information is contained in a statement made by The Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Osita Nwanisobi. Osita stated that the launch of the eNaira is a culmination of several years of research work by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This work, as he said, is in advancing the boundaries of the payment system in order to make financial transactions easier and seamless for every level of Nigerian society.

The statement said,
“Following series of engagements with relevant stakeholders including the banking community, fintech operators, merchants and a cross-section of Nigerians, the CBN designed the digital currency. This shall be activated on Monday, October 25, 2021.
“The eNaira, therefore, marks a major step forward in the evolution of money. The CBN is committed to ensuring that the eNaira, like the physical Naira, is accessible by everyone.”

Earlier the entire was to be unveiled on Independence Day October 1, 2021 but was suspended. Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, stated at that time that the event was to be deferred due to other key activities lined up to commemorate the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary.
Osita Spoke with the media in Abuja on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Nwanisobi explained that the CBN had been initially planned to coincide with the Independence anniversary. However, the decision to postpone the Independence anniversary launch of the eNaira was due to the mood of national rededication to the collective dream of One Nigeria.
