The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma has banned members of the force from using unmarked Vehicles such as mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrols across the state.
The firm directive was contained in a statement issued on July 14th, by the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye ANIPR, in which it described it as unprofessional for officers of the law to operate with such vehicles.
“The CP described the act as grossly unprofessional, and warned that any team found violating this directive will face immediate sanctions. Commanders of such teams will be vicariously held liable” the statement further added.
“The Command reiterates it’s commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing standards in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police”.
“All units are directed to comply strictly, and members of the public are encouraged to report any violations”.
The decision became necessary following numerous complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some tactical officers operating in unapproved vehicles while on routine patrols.
