It was a worthy and peaceful occasion where the First Female Vice Chancellor of FUTO gets the baton. So in grand style, on the 18th June 2021, the baton was passed from Prof. Eze to Prof. Mrs. Nnenna. In detail, the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor (VC) of FUTO, Prof. Francis C. Eze graciously and peacefully handed over the mantle of leadership to his successor, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna Nnannaya Oti. And yes again, The new Vice-Chancellor is the first female VC of the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
Prof. Mrs Nnenna was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) on Academics of the University. She is the first female to become a Deputy Vice Chancellor of FUTO. She was appointed and declared as the the 8th Substantive VC on 13th April 2021 by the 11th Governing Council. The Council led by Prof. John Offem, conducted a rigorous interview among six professors and she was selected.
Prof. Eze Speaks
In his speech, Prof. Eze took the time to appreciate his team and everyone who added value to his works during his five-year reign as the FUTO VC. The outgoing Vice-Chancellor admonished his colleagues to support the new VC. He also wished the new Vice-Chancellor the best of experience as she serves the university community. Prof. Eze wished that the achievements of Prof Mrs. Nnenna will supersede his own in the long run.
The new Vice-Chancellor Speaks
In her acceptance speech, Prof Mrs. Nnenna thanked her predecessor for all his supports and encouragement in the pursuit of her career and dream. She informed the gathering that she dreamt of being the Vice-Chancellor but didn’t know how to make it happen. Now that she is the VC, she intends to serve well.
The special event was preceded by the Commissioning of some key capital-intensive projects accomplished by the administration of Prof. Eze. The projects are:
- two gigantic furnished Hostel buildings,
 - a Central Laboratory Complex for all science activities, and
 - Materials Research Laboratory & Ancilliary work Complex.
 
Th remarkable events were witnessed by the serving Principal Officers, deans, and directors of the University. Also, this event is part of the process of a new Council where the Alumni Association has been invited to a special Convocation.
