A friend of mine once told me that this stage of life is the most confusing stage ever – after graduation. This stage of life comes with its own stress. After graduation, as a fresh graduate, there are so many times I think about it. What’s next for me and how I’ll get to achieve my dreams. I know I am not alone in this as many people like me have similar thoughts. Soon I’ll be rounding up my service year, the reality is setting in, and sometimes all I can do is hope and pray.

Yes, I know some people in my age grade already have it figured out but  I try to do the most I can sometimes so as not to stay idle. Apart from my writing gigs which come seasonally, I take free online courses. Truthfully, I have come to see that indeed this is the most challenging phase.

Sometimes, I ask myself if I am doing enough or if this is just normal. I, like so many other fresh graduates, are in the same boat. What can we do better? What should we do better? These are the questions we tend to ask ourselves. There are things I do to encourage myself and I’ll list them below and I think you should do too.

Be Positive

Keep a positive mindset- Sometimes, this is the most you can do. Always encourage yourself and keep yourself happy. We are just starting out, the world is not ready for our greatness yet.

Never be Idle

2. Do not stay idle- As the popular saying goes “An idle man is the devil’s workshop” Try to keep yourself busy with something. Learn a skill if you have the passion for it or develop a new skill online.  Just learn something around what you dream to do or dream to be.

Stay Focused

Staying focused is one behaviour that cannot be overemphasized. It is not easy because so many things are flying to distract attention and focus. Everyone has specific goals and things we hope to achieve. These things have a specific pathway to achieving them. Therefore, sticking to one something or a direction can be helpful. It should not be about what is trending Just do what you love.

Keep up the hope

Hope and Pray: This is the last point that crowns all other points. As we keep a positive mindset, learn new things, and stay focused, we need to be hopeful that the future will be bright. To add to this, we need to pray that things will work out well for us and pray to manage the worse just in case.

In all, make sure you are ready to receive that job or scholarship that will be the starting point of your successful career when it comes. Do not give up on the way and allow that confusing stage ever – after graduation
