The Super Falcons, have refused to return to training despite the NFF assuring them that their unpaid allowances would be settled ‘very soon’.
After gallantly losing to host Morocco on penalties by 5-4 in the semifinal and by extension picking a World Cup ticket, the team were supposed to resume training for Friday’s third place match against Zambia but the players have refused due to backlog allowances.
Our source gathered that the development led to an emergency meeting between the team, NFF officials and representatives of the Ministry of Sports who explained to the players the reason for the delay in payments as it takes time for intervention funds to mature from the Ministry of Finance to Central Bank of Nigeria before clearing.
It was gathered that “The meeting went well,” a source who was present at the meeting simply stated.
However, recent updates from reporters in Morocco on Wednesday evening revealed that the Super Falcons have failed to turn up for their second scheduled training session; insisting on getting their allowances.
A Nigerian journalist covering the WAFCON in Morocco, Suleiman Pooja tweeted “Super Falcons didn’t honour their evening training as they demand their allowances or nothing.
This is not the first time the Super Falcons have found themselves in this scenario, issues of unpaid allowances to the Super Falcons have become an issue practically springing up during major outings of the women national team under this administration.
