The National Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Prince (Dr.) Chinedu Obi, has accused the Nigerian media of underreporting the activities of other political parties ahead of the forthcoming 2027 elections. Dr. Obi made this assertion while appearing as a guest on the online TV program “Leadership Dialogue,” which focused on the ongoing Coalition Movement and its momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Dr. Obi, the Nigerian media has a responsibility to inform and educate Nigerians about other political parties beyond the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Coalition Movement. He expressed disappointment that the media is not doing enough to highlight the options available to Nigerians from the 17 other registered political parties in the country.
Dr. Obi also criticized the media for being biased, noting that even as the National Chairman of the NRM, the discussion focused more on the APC and the Coalition Movement rather than the NRM’s agenda and offerings. He emphasized that the NRM has consistently spoken out on issues affecting the country and has made itself available for discussions, but the media chooses to report on the parties in power instead.
When asked about the NRM’s silence on the current economic hardship in the country, Dr. Obi attributed the lack of coverage to the media’s mindset and bias. He stated that the NRM is willing to engage in weekly discussions on its ideas for Nigeria but noted that the media prefers to invite representatives from the APC and PDP instead.
Dr. Obi also highlighted the unique aspect of the NRM’s name, which includes the word “Rescue,” reflecting the party’s mission to rescue Nigerians from the current national situation. He expressed his willingness to present the party’s manifesto and share its vision with Nigerians.
The NRM chieftain’s comments underscore the challenges faced by smaller political parties in gaining media attention and visibility in Nigeria’s political landscape
