LAUSANNE, Switzerland — World Archery has announced the appointment of five new members to its Commonwealth Games Committee, with Nigeria’s Mohammed Baba Abdullahi among the officials selected to help guide the sport’s engagement within the Commonwealth Games movement.
Abdullahi, who serves as President of the Nigeria Archery Federation and Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), is one of five representatives appointed by the World Archery Executive Board (WAEB) to the committee.
The appointments were confirmed in an official letter dated May 15, 2026, addressed to Committee Chair Robert Fiddyment and signed by World Archery Secretary General Raul Calin on behalf of the federation.
According to the correspondence, the newly constituted committee reflects World Archery’s commitment to broad continental representation and international expertise as the federation continues its efforts to strengthen archery’s position within the Commonwealth Games programme.
The newly appointed members are:
• Mohammed Baba Abdullahi (Nigeria)
• Karl Balisch (Archery Canada)
• Trina Roberts
• Ainsley Ward (Scottish Archery)
• Virendra Sachdeva (Delhi Archery Association, India)
World Archery also confirmed that Juan Carlos Holgado will continue to serve as the federation’s liaison staff member to the committee.
In the letter, Calin expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the sport’s development within the Commonwealth Games framework.
“We look forward to these individuals contributing to the activities on your committee,” he stated.
The appointments come at a significant period for World Archery as the international federation continues to advocate for greater visibility and sustained inclusion of archery in future Commonwealth Games programmes.
The committee is expected to provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and governance support aimed at advancing the sport’s growth across Commonwealth nations and territories.
For Nigeria, Abdullahi’s appointment represents another milestone in the country’s growing presence within international sports administration. His dual role as President of the Nigeria Archery Federation and Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee has seen him play an active role in the development and promotion of archery both nationally and internationally.
The new committee is expected to work closely with World Archery and Commonwealth Games stakeholders to strengthen pathways for athlete participation, enhance governance structures and support the continued expansion of archery across the Commonwealth.
